ORLANDO – The No. 15 UCF softball team fell in its series finale to the Baylor Bears, 8-2, at the UCF Softball Complex Sunday afternoon.
Though the Knights managed to take an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on the strength of three consecutive singles by sophomores Izzy Mertes, Beth Damon and Kendall Yarnell, Baylor did well in stifling UCF’s offensive efforts from there.
The Bears scored in each of the second, third and fourth frames, taking a 7-1 lead, and allowed just an Aubrey Evans RBI triple in the home half of the fourth throughout the remainder of the contest. Baylor plated its final run of the afternoon in the top of the seventh inning.
