Men's Golf Primed to Defend Title at ECU Intercollegiate, Round One Moved Up to Sunday

by Ben Huber

ORLANDO - After conquering the field by 12 strokes a year ago, UCF men’s golf returns to Greenville, North Carolina, looking to defend its title at the ECU Collegiate from March 15-17.

Due to projected inclement weather on Monday, teams will play 18 holes a day beginning on Sunday.

Brook Valley Country Club is home to one of the state’s Top 100 golf courses. Since its inception in 1966, the par-72 6,803-yard course has hosted some storied matches, including a legendary exhibition match between Sam Snead and Ben Hogan. This week, the Knights will look to add another chapter to the course’s history.

Against a stacked field featuring eight ranked teams at the Hayt last week, UCF finished 14th — a result the Knights hope to improve on as they return to a tournament where they’ve previously thrived.

Last year in Greenville, the Knights showcased impressive depth throughout the lineup. All six golfers in Clemente Silva, Gustav Anderson, Chase Haygood, Hans Risvaer, and Jakub Stubhaug finished within a narrow scoring range, keeping the Knights firmly in control throughout the three-round event.

Silva, however, claimed the best finish with a +1 outing, propelling the Knights to victory. He earned a spot on the all-tournament team after shooting a stellar 71 (-1) on the third day of play, putting him in the top five.

UCF also dominated statistically during last year’s tournament. The Knights recorded 45 birdies across the three rounds, nine more than any other team in the field, and excelled on par-4 holes, finishing at +14, while the next-closest team, East Carolina, finished at +38.

With a proven track record at Brook Valley and a lineup capable of producing low scores across the board, UCF will look to rediscover the form that made them champions here a season ago.

QUALIFYING

Due to the lack of time between tournaments, all six picks were coaches picks determined by the information attached below.

The lineup will be as listed below:
