ORLANDO – The UCF softball team kept the bats hot in Sunday’s double header, earning a pair of run-rule victories over Buffalo 12-2 and Maryland 9-1 to wrap up the first weekend of the 2026 campaign.
The Knights went 5-1 on opening weekend, with all five victories coming via the run-rule. UCF’s offense chalked up 61 runs across the six games while holding opposing teams to just 15 throughout the weekend, including a 21-3 edge in Sunday’s affairs.
The Black and Gold began the season with 13-0 and 10-0 wins on Thursday over Boston University and CSU Bakersfield, respectively. UCF’s lone Friday contest saw No. 16 Duke edge past the Knights after the Black and Gold held an early 2-0 lead. UCF mounted a come-from-behind victory over Maryland on Saturday, using a nine-run fourth inning to bolt to a 15-7 triumph. The weekend ended by sweeping the double header of Buffalo and Maryland.

UP NEXT
The Knights host Missouri Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex. It will be the final game of the season-opening homestand before heading west to Clearwater, Fla. for the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational Feb. 13-15. There, UCF will face Northwestern, No. 15 Georgia, No. 12 LSU, No. 9 Nebraska and NC State throughout the weekend.
