Football Hires Cooper Bassett as Tight Ends Coach

ORLANDO – Head Coach Scott Frost has announced the addition of Cooper Bassett as UCF football’s tight ends coach.

“The tight end position is about versatility, toughness and intelligence, and Cooper checks all those boxes. He understands the position, he understands the run and pass game and knows how to prepare players to be contribute every snap."

Bassett is a versatile coach with plenty of experience on both sides of the ball. A senior captain at Oklahoma State in his playing days, the Tuttle, Okla. native played tight end and defensive line for the Cowboys from 2009-12.

With 13 years of coaching experience, Bassett has been part of two divisional championship teams and has coached in four bowl games.

Most recently, Bassett was with Oklahoma State in 2025 as the offensive line coach. Prior to that, he served as the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for a Utah State offense that finished the regular season ranked No. 7 in the nation in total offense with an average of 467.7 yards per game. The USU offense also ranked No. 22 nationally in both passing offense (269.1) and rushing offense (198.6). In his first year at Utah State in 2023, Bassett helped the Aggies to six wins and an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Bassett added stops at Sam Houston State, Southeast Missouri and West Texas A&M as the offensive line coach, earning a spot as the run game coordinator at West Texas A&M in his final two seasons there. He began his career as a graduate assistant for the offense at Missouri and Maryland. He spent three seasons at Missouri from 2013-15 and one season at Maryland in 2016. Missouri finished 23-5 and won back-to-back SEC East Division titles during his stint, and he worked primarily with the offensive line during his time at Maryland.
 
A native of Tuttle, Okla., Bassett was a four-year letterman from 2009-12 and senior captain at Oklahoma State, where he played tight end and defensive line. The Cowboys went 40-12 during his time as a player. He earned his bachelor’s degree in science from OSU in 2012 and master’s in education from Missouri in 2015.
