Track and Field's Distance Squad Leads the Way at Jimmy Carnes Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The UCF track and field team turned in another strong performance Friday at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, led by a dominant showing from the Knights’ distance group.

"We made some progress this meet in distance and field events, so that is trending in the right direction. Solid weekend and we will go back to work this week to get ready to compete in Lubbock next weekend."

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

  • The distance squad led the way for the Black and Gold at Friday’s event, with five Knights recording PRs, along with four top all-time program marks.
  • The strongest distance event was the 1000m, where three of the four competing Knights finished in the top 10. Yvone Sandui (2:54.51), Raquel Edwards (2:54.63), and Bailey McLain (2:54.69) all set new personal records, with Sandui’s and Edwards’ times ranking as the third- and fourth-best all-time, respectively.
  • Alexandra Raquet continued to grow her impact on the program, posting a personal-best 4:52.74 in the mile. She finished fifth at the meet, recording the sixth-fastest time in program history.
  • Alexia Reid and Toni Galloway were the only two Knights to advance to the final of the 60m hurdles, with freshman Reid winning her heat. In the final, Galloway finished third with a time of 8.38 seconds, while Reid placed sixth at 8.61 seconds.
  • Assistant coach Brody Honeycutt’s revamped jumps squad continues to show promise, as freshman Kaeli Powe etched her name into the record books with a personal-best triple jump of 12.52 meters, ranking seventh in program history.

UP NEXT
The squad will split ways next weekend, as the distance squad heads to Clemson, S.C., for the Orange & Purple Invitational competeing on Jan. 23 and 24. Meanwhile, head coach Dana Boone will head to Lubbock, Texas, for the Red Raider Invite, held on Friday, the 23rd.
