ORLANDO - UCF rowers Amalie Thorsen and Viktorija Senkute proudly represented the Knights on the international stage as they concluded competition for their home countries at the 2025 Senior World Rowing Championships.

Serving as a key event for the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics, the 2025 Senior World Rowing Championships took place in Shanghai, China, allowing for top rowers around the world to participate in various events that showcased discipline and skills throughout an eight-day period.

Thorsen became the first active UCF rower to compete at the Senior World Championships and the only collegiate athlete representing Denmark. She played a key role in her crew’s performance in the Women's Four (W4-) while sitting in the stroke seat.

Thorsen completed the event finishing fifth in Heat 2 finishing with a time of 06:46.29. The Danish W4- advanced to Final B where they produced the same result finishing at five with a time of 06:52.89. The Humlebaek, Denmark native sat alongside Olympians in Karen Frost and Nanna Vigild, who participated in the 2024 Olympics with the Danish National Team as well as Elisabeth Keller who sat in the bow seat.

Thorsen’s path mirrors that of former UCF rower and 2024 Olympian Viktorija Senkute, who joined her fellow Knight at the Senior World Championship.

Senkute, representing Lithuania, delivered an exceptional performance by winning her Heat 2 with a time of 07:17.93 and finished second in Semifinal 2 at 07:32.11. The Trakai, Lithuania native advanced to Final A where she became the first woman who represents Lithuania to win fourth place in the Women's Single Sculls among the 53 other countries being represented at the Championship. Senkute recorded a historic finish in the final with a time of 07:20.67.

“The Olympics took a huge toll on me back in 2024, so I had no idea what this year would bring, but I’m happy that the season turned out this way. This season is the best one I have had yet. I do not measure my success in medals; I measure it in constant improvement."

Both Senkute and Thorsen are great examples of the legacy that UCF rowing continues to elevate within its program. As the season starts to ramp up, the Black and Gold will see Thorsen travel back to Orlando to join her fellow Knights in the spring beginning with the Iowa Scrimmage on Lake Pickett on February 27.
