Women's Hoops Announces Addition of Two Prominent Swedish Internationals

ORLANDO - Head coach Sytia Messer has announced the addition of two prominent Swedish internationals to the 2025-26 roster, securing the signings of Meja Hänsel and Felicia Schölander. The pair will join a fresh and exciting group as the Knights will add experience at the international level and scoring ability at all three levels.

Felicia Schölander

Freshman | Guard | 5-9 | Stockholm, Sweden 

Schölander arrives in Orlando after competing in Sweden’s Basketettan league, where she averaged 14.4 points per game last season while shooting 33 percent from beyond the arc.

Known for her perimeter scoring and versatility at guard, she logged 24.5 minutes per game, contributing 8.3 points on average while showcasing her ability to stretch the floor and defend multiple positions.

On the international stage, Schölander represented Sweden at the 2024 FIBA U20 European Championship, helping her team to a fourth-place finish. The experience solidified her reputation as one of Sweden’s rising backcourt talents.

Meja Hänsel 

Freshman | Forward | 6-2 | Stockholm, Sweden 

Hänsel has spent the last three years in Luleå, a national basketball high school in Sweden. Hänsel appeared in 18 games for RIG Luleå in the Basketettan Women’s league during the 2024–25 season, averaging 20.6 minutes per contest, while posting 11.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.

Her season was highlighted by a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double against BG Luleå on January 27, 2025, where she shot 7-of-11 from the field and added four assists. The 6-foot-2 forward also competed internationally, representing Sweden at the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket Division B tournament.

She appeared in four games, gaining valuable experience against Europe’s top competition. Developing into a versatile two-way player known for her rebounding and defensive instincts, she consistently improved her production year over year, averaging 7.3 points and 5.9 rebounds in 2022–23 before boosting those numbers to 11.6 points and 6.3 rebounds this past season.
