Quattrocchi Impresses in Season-Opener, Knights Place Third

by Aiden Kocol

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Competing in their season-opening meet, the UCF Cross Country made a statement, finishing third at the Florida Intercollegiate on Friday night. Ava Quattrocchi and Izzy Richardson set the tone for the squad, both securing top-15 finishes.

"We talked all week about today being a tone setter and making sure it was a total team effort, and I really think we did that to a high level today."

In the first-ever meet on Cecil Field for the Black and Gold, Quattrocchi led the Knights in 12th, not only setting the standard for her teammates but also herself, turning in a new 5k personal-best time of 18:10.0. Richardson, the veteran force on the team for the night, ran across the finish just after her fellow Knight finishing with a time of 18:12.3 to take 13th.

Finishing, nearly back-to-back, sophomore Madison Patchan clocked a time of 18:20.9, followed closely by senior Bailey McLain in 18:29.4. The duo placed 17th and 19th, respectively, with both setting new personal records.

Freshman Daisy Ross and Masha Dorofeev each made their collegiate debut at the outing, both turning in promising sub-20 times. Ross came across the finish at the 18:39.2 mark for a 23rd-place finish, with Dorofeev coming in 32nd with a time of 19:01.8.

Raquel Edwards rounded out the performance with a 21:27.2 time to finish 66th.
