ORLANDO – UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir has announced a two-year contract extension for head track and field and cross country coach Dana Boone, securing her leadership of the Knights through the 2028-29 season.

“I want to thank Terry for the continued opportunity to lead this program. I'm excited about the future and am looking forward to continuing to raise the bar.”

Boone, one of the longest-tenured head coaches at UCF, having taken over the program in 2018, has guided the Knights through a successful transition into the Big 12 Conference. The extension follows another banner season highlighted by multiple All-America honors at the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon, continuing the program’s tradition of competing on the sport’s biggest stage.

During the 2025 campaign, Boone’s squad posted standout performances at both the Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor Championships, setting four program records during the indoor season and nearly doubling their point total from the previous year in Lubbock. The 4x400m relay squad won UCF’s first indoor event title in Big 12 history, sparking a run that carried into the NCAA Indoor Championships, where five Knights earned six Second Team All-America honors, the program’s strongest indoor nationals showing in more than a decade.

Outdoors, UCF secured its first top-10 team finish at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships with 41 points, highlighted by Adaobi Tabugbo’s 100m hurdles title, the fifth straight conference crown for UCF in that event. The 4x400m squad once again struck gold, completing the indoor-outdoor sweep, while eight Knights advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary across seven events and four reached the NCAA Championships in Eugene.

“Dana has built a strong women’s program here at UCF that competes with the very best in the country. Her student-athletes continue to break records, win championships, and shine on the conference and national stage. She and her program continue to raise the bar every year, and we’re proud to have her leading the Knights into the future.”

Under Boone’s leadership, the Knights have produced consistent All-America performances, including a streak of five consecutive years with All-America recognition in the hurdles and multiple national relay honors. Boone has also guided athletes to historic achievements in the Big 12, including Rayiah Jones’ 100m hurdles title and 10th career All-America honor, tying for second-most in program history.

Before UCF’s move to the Big 12, Boone closed out the program’s American Athletic Conference era in dominant fashion, sweeping both indoor and outdoor titles in 2022 and 2023 while producing meet records, individual champions, and numerous All-America honors.
