Bruce-Burgess Signs Two-Year Contract Extension

by Franki Noble

ORLANDO – UCF and head men’s tennis coach Lloyd Bruce-Burgess have agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2029 season, as announced today by UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir.

In just two years at the helm, Bruce-Burgess led the program to its most successful season in history as the Knights secured a 23–9 record during the 2024–25 campaign, marking the most wins in the Division I era.

“I’m incredibly grateful to UCF and our athletics administration for their continued belief in me and our men’s tennis program. These past two years have been amazing, filled with program firsts and special moments, and I’m excited to keep chasing history with this team. The future of UCF Athletics as a whole is so bright, and I’m thrilled to be part of it through 2029.”

The Knights made history by reaching the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time, highlighted by a thrilling victory over Florida that marked the team’s first-ever second-round win in the tournament.

“Lloyd has elevated our men’s tennis program since he took over two years ago. His drive and commitment to developing top-tier student-athletes have pushed our program into the national conversation, as evident by our first ever trip to the Round of 16 this past spring. We’re proud of what he and his program have accomplished and are excited for the future.”

Throughout the season, UCF proved its strength against elite competition, earning four top-10 wins, including a historic upset of reigning national champion No. 4 Ohio State at the ITA Indoor Championships and a semifinal triumph over No. 2 TCU in the Big 12 Tournament.

Consistently ranked throughout the year, Bruce-Burgess’ squad climbed as high as No. 11 in the ITA rankings, the third-best placement in program history, and finished at No. 16, the highest final ranking of any team in the southeast region.

Bruce-Burgess made an immediate impact in his debut season, leading UCF to a 19–6 record in its inaugural Big 12 campaign. The Knights opened the year with a 7–0 start and posted a 14–1 non-conference record, the best in program history.

His leadership has also produced individual success. In his first year, five Knights earned ITA Singles and Doubles honors, and the tandem of Lleyton Cronje and Santiago Giamichelle captured the ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championship, adding another milestone to the program’s growing list of achievements.

In only two seasons, Bruce-Burgess has already etched his name among the elite in UCF men’s tennis history. With an impressive 42–15 overall record and a .737 winning percentage, he ranks among the top five head coaches in program history.
