ORLANDO – The UCF men’s basketball team has announced the addition of Texas Tech transfer Devan Cambridge, head coach Johnny Dawkins announced Friday.

"Devan has contributed to multiple NCAA Tournament runs with different programs and knows what it takes to succeed at this level. He's a versatile player who knows how to put the ball in the basket and also create opportunities for others to score. We're excited to welcome him to our UCF family."

Cambridge has averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest over his career which spans across six seasons with three different programs. While playing in a majority of his teams’ contests over his first four collegiate seasons, his last two have been shortened by injury, playing 14 games through two campaigns with the Red Raiders. He averaged 8.4 points per contest while with Texas Tech, tallying seven double-digit scoring performances.

The six-foot-six forward comes from a basketball family. His father, Desmond, played collegiate basketball at Alabama A&M from 1998-2002. As a senior, his father set and still holds the NCAA Division I record for most steals in a season, snatching 160 to average 5.52 per contest. Devan is one of seven siblings in the Cambridge family. Devan played alongside his brother, Desmond Jr., at Arizona State during the 2022-23 season. Together, the duo won an NCAA Tournament game, beating Nevada 98-73 before falling by two TCU in the following game. The brothers tallied a total of 32 points in the victory as Devan scored 15 points on four-of-six shooting with four rebounds and an assist.

Initially the No. 8 recruit in the state of Arizona, Cambridge began his college career at Auburn for three seasons. His rookie campaign saw the Tigers go 25-6 while he played in 408 minutes across 31 games. The NCAA Tournament was cancelled that year, bringing an abrupt end to his 2019-20 campaign. He paid his first visit to Addition Financial Arena in 2020-21 as UCF beat Auburn 63-55.

Cambridge made his NCAA Tournament debut in Auburn’s first round win over Jacksonville State in 2021-22, securing five rebounds and two points in 15 minutes off the bench. The Tigers lost the following round as Cambridge played a similar role. In total, Cambridge has played in four March Madness contests, averaging 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds along the way.
