ORLANDO - The UCF rowing team jumped two spots in the Pocock CRCA Poll sitting at No. 15, the highest the crew has ever been ranked.
The crew accumulated 1287 points in this week’s poll, breaking the record they set last week for the most in program history.
The Black and Gold sit in the top 15 of the poll following a solid two-day event in Oak Ridge, Tenn. at the Rocky Top Invitational. They faced three ranked opponents in No. 6 Tennessee, No. 16 Duke University and No. 22 University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
During heat races, three of four boats secured a win over No. 16 Duke. The I Eight came out 13 seconds ahead of Duke finishing with a time of 6:39.902 over the Blue Devils’ 6:52.736.
The next day, the Knights raced solely against ranked competitors as every boat advanced to Grand Finals. The I Eight placed second, topping No. 16 Duke by 14 seconds and finishing behind No. 6 Tennessee by 9 seconds. The II Four also placed second, falling behind No. 6 Tennessee by just shy of five seconds.
The Knights will face several ranked opponents in their next race as they travel to Austin, Texas for the Longhorn Invitational. The competition includes No. 1 University of Texas at Austin, No. 2 Stanford and No. 20 University of Oklahoma.
