UCF Men’s Golf in First Place Following First Day at ECU Intercollegiate

by Justin Wilson

GREENVILLE, N.C. – After recording their best score of the season at the event last year, the UCF men’s golf team put together another stellar performance in the ECU Intercollegiate held Monday afternoon at the Brook Valley Country Club.

UCF leads the field following the first day of action with a two-over-par 539. Play was suspended through 15-16 holes in the second round due to darkness, so the teams will resume at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning for the conclusion of round two and the final third round.

The Knights were four under in the first round and are six over a little more than halfway through the second round. UCF was the only team to record a round under par on the day.

Following his first individual tournament win in the ECU Intercollegiate last year, sophomore Hans Risvaer has continued his strong play on the course, as he’s tied for fourth on the player leaderboard at -1. The Miami native started the day on fire, dropping in birdie putts on each of his first four holes to take the early lead.

He also dropped in a birdie on hole No. 9 to move to five under before two tough holes pushed his first-round score to a 70 (-2). With two holes remaining in the second round, Risvaer is one over.

Clemente Silva opened the day with a bogey-free front nine to sit at three under at the turn and finished the first round at one under (71). He birdied hole No. 2, 6, 7 and 14. In the second round, Silva logged birdies on No. 2 and No. 3, and he has three holes left to play in round two. Silva is tied for 11th on the player leaderboard.
