ORLANDO- Following a successful season-opening regatta, the UCF rowing team has earned a spot on the Pocock CRCA poll at No. 25 in the nation. Tuesday’s poll marks the first time in program history that the crew has been nationally ranked.
The Knights are the only team out of the Big 12 to be recognized in this week’s poll. The other teams slotted in the top 25 include future opponents this season such as No. 1 University of Texas, No. 3 University of Tennessee, Knoxville, No. 5 University of Washington, No. 15 Duke University, No. 18 Alabama, No. 21 University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and No. 22 Harvard.
The national recognition comes after a strong performing dual against Jacksonville in which all but one boat crossed the finish first. The crew posted stellar times, with four out of five winning boats finishing over 30 seconds ahead of the opponents.
The Knights accumulated 277 points while sitting at 25 in the Coaches Association poll.
The Black and Gold will look to continue the success as they travel to Sarasota, Fla. for the Sarasota 2k at Nathan Benderson Park in just under two weeks.
