Women's Hoops Stifled by Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The UCF women’s basketball team was stifled by Utah Saturday afternoon in the John M. Huntsman Center with a final score of 95-51.

Utah (18-5, 9-3 Big 12) led with 38 rebounds while the Knights (8-14, 1-11) recorded eight steals on the day.

Utah started the day off with a three-pointer and continued throughout the remainder of the game going 16-33 from beyond the arc. Khyala Ngodu answered with a layup but the Utes raked in the points with multiple scoring runs. Utah ended the first quarter with a 12-point advantage, 27-15.

The Utes continued their scoring ways, tallying 16 points in the second quarter. The Black and Gold were unable to string together points to take a cut at the Utes’ lead as the teams headed into the half with Utah up 43-28. Kaitlin Peterson went 3-7 from the field and added a three-pointer to score seven points in the quarter.

UCF came out of the locker room and struggled to make shots from the field going 3-16 which helped the Utes continue their momentum in the game as they ended the third quarter with an 8-0 spurt, 68-36.

The Black and Gold went on a scoring drought in the middle of the fourth as Utah continued to pile on the points with a 15-0 run. Utah ended the game with a 95-51 victory. The Utes are now 1-0 in the series record as this marked the first time the two teams have met on the hardwood.

The guard duo of Peterson and Nevaeh Brown each recorded double digits with 17 and 11, respectively. Mahogany Chandler-Roberts notched a career-high 10 rebounds on the day. Brown dished out three assists to mark the 10th time she has led the team in assists this season. 

The Knights head back to the Sunshine State for their Think Pink game against Arizona State Wednesday, February 8 at 7 p.m.
