Men's Tennis Slots in at 13th in Latest ITA Rankings

by Alex Clough

ORLANDO The UCF men's tennis team continues to rank among the nation's best, slotting in at 13th in the latest ITA rankings after a dominating weekend at the USTA National Campus.

Striving to keep pace with their Big 12 counterparts, the Knights trail only No. 2 TCU and No. 9 Arizona, making for an eye-catching weekend from March 14-16 to open conference play in Orlando. Baylor slotted in at 17th, while Arizona State (41), Utah (56) and Texas Tech (75) secured premier positions as well.

Having already played four teams in the top 10, the Knights' resume continues to prove their strength in difficult bouts.

The squad took care of business this past weekend, commencing a seven-match homestand with a pair of strong wins. Against UAB, the Knights secured the doubles point swiftly before taking three singles courts in a matter of an hour to get back into the win column.

It would be more of the same on Sunday against 71st-ranked Stetson, tallying the team's third-ranked win of the season with a 6-1 display after multiple straight-set victories on the front three courts.

A weekend off will precede an action-packed non-conference conclusion, as UCF will welcome UNC-Wilmington and Coastal Carolina on Friday, March 7, before facing off with No. 42 South Florida on Sunday, March 9, for the second time this season.
