ORLANDO -Ā An efficient season-opening triumph against Georgia Southern has propelled the UCF women's tennis team to 23rd in Wednesday's ITA Rankings. Voted upon by various head coaches nationwide, the Knights keep pace with the position and remain among the top 25 for the second edition running.
Tabbed 25th in the preseason rankings, the Knights took care of business against the Eagles in their lone match thus far. Dropping just five games across three courts in doubles, the Black and Gold carried the momentum into singles with wins on courts one through five.
Of note, four Knights secured their first collegiate dual-match victory, with Aya El Aouni, Jade Psonka, Olivia Bergler and Hannah Rylatt giving plenty to look forward to having straight-set wins from each. 85th-ranked Sophia Biolay bounced back after falling in the second set of her court one bout, prevailing in the super tiebreak.
Rylatt, who alongside reigning Big 12 freshman of the year Olivia Lincer, showed why they currently reside 65th in the ITA doubles rankings, disposing of Mackenzie Leopold and Lisen Rinman, 6-1.
Oklahoma State remains fourth in the nation as the Cowgirls and Knights remain the only two Big 12 Conference squads to feature in the top 25. FIU, whom UCF welcomes to the USTA National Campus on Feb. 2, entered the rankings at 25th.
Always moving forward š
