GAINESVILLE, Florida - Two Knights broke into the program records in Gainesville Friday morning for the UCF track and field team at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, held at Alachua County Sports and Events Center.Ā
Coach Bryan Harmon and the distance squad showcased debuts from freshmen Gianna Del Pizzo and Raquel Edwards, who opened up the day with the 1000m, coupled with some impressive individual times.Ā
Kendall Hughes (2:56.32) and Penelope Sosa (2:59.49) finished eighth and tenth, both establishing personal and top-10 all-time marks. With her time, Kendall Hughes moves up to third best time in program history for the event, previously former Knight Karen Kozub (2:56.37). Penelope Sosa took the seventh spot from Kaitlyn Soltis (2:59.81).

In their debut showings, Gianna Del Pizzo (3:01.63) and Raquel Edwards (3:04.3) finished 15th and 17th, with strong performances from the freshmen tandem.
Abby Clements tallied her second-consecutive personal best in the mile, dropping her time set at the Rod McCravy Memorial a week ago by four seconds. The Pinellas Park native placed 16th-overall with her time of 5:03.92.
The day was concluded with a Riley Jaszczak personal record in the 3000m, crossing the line in 10:20.61. Freshman Avery Latto led the charge though, clocking an impressive debut of 10:15.98, placing 10th.
