ORLANDO - UCF track and field’s indoor season continues on Friday in Gainesville for its third consecutive participation in the Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track & Field Invitational.
The distance runners making the road trip have a reputation to keep for UCF after last year's performance in Gainesville. The Knights secured a first-place finish in the 800m and three top-10 finishes just outside of the podium spots in the 3000m, finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth.
In addition to the 3000m, the Knights will run in the 1000m and mile events. UCF will debut two new 1000m runners this season Gianna Del Pizzo and Raquel Edwards, while the mile run will feature sophomore Abby Clements, who claimed a seventh-place finish in the 1000m last weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Louisville, Kentucky.
EVENTS TO WATCH
3000M (6 p.m.) - Five Knights will embark on the premier distance event of the day to conclude Friday’s action. Paige and Riley Jaszczak will be joined by a trio of freshman making their collegiate debut on the track, as Avery Latto, Madison Patchan and Ava Quattricchi will strive to bring their strong performances during the cross-country season into the new year.
1000m (10 a.m.) - The first of three events for the Knights will see another group of five compete in the 1000m. Kendall Hughes will compete in the first heat, while junior Penelope Sosa will join the aforementioned Del Pizzo and Edwards in heat two.
