UCF Knight Clemente SIlva, from Santiago, Chile, finished sixth in the South American Amateur Open this past weekend in Chile. He opened the tournament strong firing (-2) in the first two rounds and an impressive (-4) in the third round. Silva concluded the weekend with a score of 283 (-5) to claim sixth place on the leaderboard.
During the first round of the tournament, Silva was even throughout the first nine holes and gained momentum on the back nine to fire three birdies on holes 10, 17 and 18. Silva logged the first birdie on a par 4 and the last two on par 5’s.
In the second round, Silva dropped four birdie putts and carded a 35 on both the front and back nine. The first birdie took place on hole 5, a par 4, followed by a birdie on hole 16, a par 3. The final two were on holes 17 and 18, both par 5’s, which highlights Silva’s ability to excel on both long and short distance holes.
Silva came in hot on the third day of the tournament shooting an impressive bogey-free 68 (-4) with a birdie on 2,6,12, and 17.
Heading into the final round of the tournament Silva was (-8) and carded a 75 to conclude the tournament. Despite facing some diversity in the first nine, Silva made a strong comeback to shoot a 34 (-3) on the back nine, recording birdies on holes 12, 15, and 16.
Silva and the Knights return to action on Feb. 3 at the Sea Best Invitational in Atlantic Beach, Florida.
