SEATTLE – Former UCF infielder and current Seattle Mariners utility player Dylan Moore claimed his first career Major League Baseball Rawlings Gold Glove Award on Sunday.
Moore was recognized as the American League’s 2024 Gold Glove Award winner at the utility position. The award not only marks the first of Moore’s career, but he also becomes UCF’s inaugural Varsity Knight to earn a Gold Glove Award at the Major League level.
Moore is the definition of a true utility player, as he played six different positions for the Mariners in 2024. On the season, Moore played 49 games at shortstop, 45 at third base, 37 at second base, 22 in left field, 11 at first base, and one in center field. He committed just five errors in 401 total chances for a stellar .988 fielding percentage. He also tallied 202 assists and 194 putouts on the year.
In 135 total games played in 2024, Moore complied a .687 OPS at the plate. He recorded 10 homers, 23 doubles, four triples, 53 runs scored, and 42 RBIs. He also stole a career-best 32 bases. His 32 stolen bags and his 23 doubles were good enough to lead the club. He also ranked second on the team in walks in 2024 with 53 and recorded 74 total hits.
The 2024 campaign marked Moore’s sixth consecutive season with the Mariners. The former Knight is one of just 20 Big Leaguers to be named a Gold Glover for 2024 and one of 14 first-time Gold Glove Award winners.
From the American League, Moore is joined by teammate Cal Raleigh (C), Carlos Santana of the Marlins (1B), Andrés Giménez of the Guardians (2B), Alex Bregman of the Astros (3B), Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals (SS), Steven Kwan of the Guardians (LF), Daulton Varsho of the Blue Jays (CF), Wilyer Abreu of the Red Sox (RF), and Seth Lugo of the Royals (P). From the National League, Patrick Bailey of the Giants (C), Christian Walker of the Diamondbacks (1B), Brice Turang of the Brewers (2B), Matt Chapman of the Giants (3B), Ezequiel Tovar of the Rockies (SS), Ian Happ of the Cubs (LF), Brenton Doyle of the Rockies (CF), Sal Frelick of the Brewers (RF), Jared Triolo of the Pirates (UT), and Chris Sale of the Braves (P) also earned Gold Glove honors.
Moore, who played his junior and senior seasons at UCF in 2014 and 2015, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the seventh round in 2015 (198th overall selection). During his time in Orlando, Moore was tabbed a two-time American Athletic Conference All-Conference honoree—winning first team honors in 2015 and second team accolades in 2014. He was also named to Perfect Game’s Midseason All-America Team in 2015 as well as The American’s Preseason All-Conference team that same season. He paced the Knights in average (.333), hits (80), RBI (45), slugging percentage (.542), on-base percentage (.417) and stolen bases (14) during his senior year.
The Gold Glove Awards are presented by Rawlings annually, honoring the best defenders at each position in both the AL and NL since 1957. Major League managers and coaches vote within their league, accounting for 75% of the selection process, while the other 25% is conducted by the sabermetrics community.
