Men's Soccer Falls in Sunday Tilt at Georgia Southern, 2-0

STATESBORO, Ga. – The UCF men’s soccer team managed a 12-6 advantage in the shot attempt column, but the squad was unable to break through the Georgia Southern defensive front in its 2-0 loss to the Eagles at Bo Pitts Field Sunday night.

The defeat snapped the Knights’ (5-5-3, 3-4-0 Sun Belt) two-game win streak and brought UCF down to .500 overall and one game south of even in Sun Belt conference play, while Georgia Southern (6-4-4, 2-3-2 Sun Belt) clinched its second league win of the season and its sixth overall.

The Black and Gold, who entered the evening tied for fourth place in the Sun Belt table, now enter their final two regular-season matches in sixth place with nine points, trailing No. 6 West Virginia (17), No. 4 Marshall (15), James Madison (12), South Carolina (12) and Kentucky (11), and sitting one place ahead of Georgia Southern (8).

UCF played a strong first 45 minutes, outshooting the Eagles 8-1 while holding its opposition without an attempt on goal. Seven different Knights tried a shot during the first half, led by senior Ousmane Ba’s two.

Georgia Southern bounced back in the final stanza, outshooting the Knights 5-4 while netting a pair of late goals in the 69th and 78th minutes to send UCF to its fifth defeat of the fall.
