Garmon Named UCF’s Inaugural CFB #Content Coordinator

by Justin Wilson

At one of the nation’s most innovative universities, the UCF Athletics Association has continued its forward-thinking trend with the announcement of Alex Garmon as CFB #Content Coordinator.

In this newly-created role, the first in college football, Garmon will be tasked with ideating and executing original content ideas pertaining to UCF football in the latest college football video games.

After more than a 10-year hiatus, the College Football 25 video game made its return this summer with dozens of UCF alums, including 42 graduates of the university’s Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA), helping to create the game. FIEA, the world’s top-ranked graduate video gaming school, is located at UCF Downtown, across the street from EA Orlando and is a strong pipeline of talent to the game developer.

The Princeton Review and PC Gamer recognize that UCF’s programs are among the best in the world. UCF’s graduate game design program, the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA), is ranked No. 1 in the world for the fourth time in five years.

A Boca Raton, Florida, native and recent UCF graduate with a bachelor's degree in emerging media, Garmon has worked on numerous projects during his undergraduate tenure as a student in the #Content department.

"From his 2021 start as a #Content intern to joining our team in a first-of-its-kind position, it's been awesome to have a front-row seat to Alex's growth as an all-around content creator,” said Eric DeSalvo, Senior Associate Athletic Director for #Content. “His work in the CFB game space will help strengthen UCF fandom, as well as give our school and student-athletes even more reach to all outside of Orlando."

He will be tasked to collaborate with the #Content team on ways to maximize UCF’s exposure in the E-Sports industry, while creating original content for various modes of the games, as well as simulating weekly in-season matchups.

“I think it’s a super unique position and I’m excited to take advantage of this opportunity that has been given to me and take it to the next level,” said Garmon. “I can’t wait to see what type of content will come out of this to give fans even more opportunity to represent UCF as a leader in innovation.”

UCF is ranked No. 6 nationally in the latest U.S. News and World Report Rankings for most innovative among public universities and No. 14 among all universities.

One of Garmon's most viral projects was a reenactment of running back RJ Harvey’s 92-yard touchdown run from UCF’s 45-3 victory against No. 15 Oklahoma State last season in the program’s annual Space Game.

Additionally, Garmon’s video of quarterback KJ Jefferson appearing to throw a football into a wall on UCF Football’s X page was viewed by more than 132,000 accounts.

The Knights open their 2024 football campaign against New Hampshire at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 at FBC Mortgage Stadium. The first meeting between the programs will air live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

UCF’s home conference slate features contests versus Colorado, Cincinnati, BYU, Arizona and Utah. The Knights' Big 12 road game list includes TCU, Iowa State, Arizona State and West Virginia.
