Softball Signs Outfield Transfer Madi Simon

by Ryan Ladika

ORLANDO – The UCF softball team has announced the addition of outfielder Madi Simon to its 2024-25 roster, representing the squad’s second signing from the transfer portal this summer.

Simon joins the Knights as a graduate transfer from Oregon State, having spent the last four seasons with the Beavers. The Irvine, California, native owns a .230/.304/.396 aggregate line over her first four collegiate campaigns, accompanied by 17 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs, 169 total bases, 43 walks and 55 RBI.

“Coach Bear and the rest of the team were so welcoming, and it’s a great opportunity to play Division I softball at a high power five level. It seemed like such a great family atmosphere to be around; I’ve heard nothing but great things about the program.”

A steady defensive presence as well, Simon boasts a .962 career fielding percentage, bolstered by a season-high .989 mark in 2024 that saw her commit just one error in 93 total chances. She began her career with the Beavers as an infielder during her freshman 2021 season before moving primarily to the outfield for the remainder of her Oregon State tenure.

In starting 47 of the Beavers’ 50 games in 2024, Simon produced team-leading marks in runs scored (21) and walks (20), notching the third season of her career with at least 20 runs scored and her first career 20-walk season in registering a season-high .333 on-base percentage. Her 20 walks this spring would have also tied graduating fifth-year senior Shannon Doherty for the team lead among Knights players.

Simon produced a pair of six-game hit streaks during the 2024 campaign, the first coming against Saint Mary’s, Fresno State, Utah Valley, Bethune-Cookman and Wisconsin Feb. 16-22.

She later matched her season-long hit streak in six games during conference play against then-No. 3 Stanford, then-No. 20 Oregon and Utah April 14-27, including a two-run home run to help lead the Beavers to a 6-5 upset victory over the Cardinal April 14.

“I’m definitely excited. I love seeing new teams, a few of the Pac-12 teams are coming to the Big 12, so I’m looking forward to bringing my experience playing against them for the last four years to UCF and contributing in that way.”

Simon made eight starts in 2023, hitting .435 and seeing six of her 10 hits go for extra bases, including three doubles, one triple and two home runs. She began the 2023 slate with a two-double showing against New Mexico Feb. 10 and hit safely in seven of her eight games, including a 3-for-3 display against Portland State Feb. 18 that also marked her second straight game with a home run.

The outfielder played a key role in the 2022 Beavers’ run to the Women’s College World Series as well, hitting safely in four of Oregon State’s five games during the NCAA Knoxville Regional. Simon recorded three extra-base hits, including a solo home run and two doubles, and drove in three runs in helping lead her squad to the NCAA Stanford Super Regional.

The Beavers eliminated the Cardinal in just two games, aided by Simon’s crucial second-inning two-run homer in Oregon State’s 3-1 victory in Game 1, to punch their ticket to Oklahoma City.

Simon also strengthens UCF’s ties to the Puerto Rico national team, as she was a member of the silver medal-winning squad at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, along with current Knights Samantha Delhoyo and Yessenia Lopez, and former UCF right-handed pitcher Gianna Mancha.

“I played with Sammi, Yessenia and Gianna in Puerto Rico and Chile, and they were definitely a huge factor in my decision,” Simon added. “I love playing with them, and they spoke very highly of the program, of Coach Bear and the new members of the coaching staff. They thought it would be a great fit for me.”
