ORLANDO – The second of three premier meets at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, will see freshman Y’Vette Harris embark on the United States U-20 Track and Field Championships Wednesday night.
The Stockton, California, native has produced an incredible debut season in Black and Gold, flying out to strong times in the 100m hurdles to secure qualification. Following her outing at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, the first freshman to compete at the event since Rayniah Jones in 2021, Harris will compete alongside a selection of collegiate and amateur athletes.
Two rounds will determine the six athletes, along with an alternate, who qualify for the U-20 World Championships in Lima, Peru, from Aug. 26-31.
Harris will lineup in heat two, lane three in the prelims at 7:50 p.m. ET. Across the two heats, the top three in each plus the next three fastest times will qualify for the finals at 9:21 p.m. ET.
A versatile athlete, Harris featured as a multis athlete during the indoor season alongside her breakout in the hurdles, setting the freshman record at the Vanderbilt Invitational with 3,440 points.
At the 2024 Big 12 Indoor Championships, she was a member of the 4x400m relay squad that placed seventh and garnered the Knights two points.
During the outdoor season, she ran a 13.63 in the 100m hurdles at the Knights Invite which stands as her personal best and the 10th-best time in program history.
