ORLANDO – After a standout inaugural season as a member of the Big 12 Conference that included a trip to the Bermuda Run NCAA Regional, two members of the UCF women’s golf team have been named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division I All-America Team. Freshman Molly Smith and sophomore Pimpisa “Sandwich” Sisutham earned a spot on the honorable mention team and are the first Knights to receive the honors during head coach Emily Marron's tenure.
“I am so incredibly proud of Molly and Sandwich! They both are so deserving of this prestigious honor. This is not only a big moment for both of them but for our program as well. Sandwich and Molly are leaders on our team, and they have set a new standard for our players to strive for.”
Smith wrapped up her phenomenal freshman season with four top-five finishes, one individual tournament win and was named to the ANNIKA Award Final Fall and Spring Watch Lists. The Westford, Massachusetts, native competed in all 11 tournaments for the Knights and helped lead the squad to their second tournament win of the fall at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate. Smith carded a team-leading 12 under par, including eight birdies in her final round, en route to her first tournament win in the Black and Gold.
The freshman shot 16 rounds under par on the season and tied for the team lead with six 54-hole scores under par. Smith was the top finisher for UCF in four competitions, including the NCAA Regionals where she finished two under par. She also was the first Knight to earn Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month honors, which she earned in October, after landing in the top-15 individually in the three tournaments played in the month.
At the UCF Challenge, Smith turned in a second-place score of 206, finishing each round at least two strokes under par to put her at -10 for the tournament.
After being named to the American Athletic All-Conference team in her rookie season, Sisutham continued her success during her sophomore year, bringing home the win at the Gators Invitational. The sophomore competed in 10 tournaments with UCF, earning six tournament scores under par. Along with the co-champion individual title, the Bangkok, Thailand, native was the top finisher for the Knights in four tournaments, a team high.
Kicking off the fall season, the sophomore opened the Cougar Classic with a career-best -11 tournament score to finish fourth. Sisutham led the team in the following tournament as well, where she shot 71 or better in all three rounds to finish one-under at the Evie Odom, leading the squad to its first team victory of the season.
Sisutham opened the month of March with a bang, turning in an impressive 204 (-6) at the Gators Invitational to earn the co-champion honor for the second consecutive year. Throughout the tournament, she carded 11 birdies, the second most at the competition.
The All-America nod adds to Sisutham’s list of honors throughout the 2023-24 season, as she most recently qualified for a spot in the U.S. Women’s Open after shooting even par at the Bradenton Country Club Qualifier to secure a berth in the prestigious tournament.
