DALLAS, Texas – On the final day of the Texas Showdown, the UCF women’s golf team came up short in match play as Maryland defeated UCF, 4-1-0, and the Knights tied with Baylor, 2-2-1, at the Dallas Athletic Club.
Against Maryland, Nicha Kanpai defeated UCF’s Jess Baker to give the Terrapins an early 1-0 lead in the match and Maryland’s Patrice Mackova edged Molly Smith, 3&2. Brittany Shin earned a victory for the Knights, taking down Virginia Bossi, 4&3. Shin grabbed the lead with three holes remaining and held on to register a point for UCF.
The Terrapins’ Maria Corbi edged UCF sophomore Pimpisa “Sandwich” Sisutham, 2&1. Corbi held onto the lead until a tie at hole No. 18 then took back the lead for the remaining six holes. Maryland’s Panassaya Somchit clinched the match for the Terrapins, defeating UCF freshman Katie Poots, 3&2.

In UCF’s second 18 holes of the day, the Knights tied with Baylor, 2-2-1. Smith earned the victory for the Knights, taking down Silje Ohma, 1UP. Smith and Ohma’s match came down to the wire as Smith recorded a three in the final hole to snag the win. Sisutham defeated Baylor’s Ashleen Kaur, 3&1, to give the Knights their second point in the match. Bears’ Sera Hasegawa edged Shin, 3&2. Baylor’s Rosie Belsham defeated Poots, 5&4 to knot the match, 2-2. Baker and BaiMai Seema’s match was tied following 18 holes.
