Women's Golf in Third Following 36 Holes at Texas Showdown

DALLAS, Texas – A trio of Knights in the top 10 helped propel UCF women’s golf to third place in stroke play Monday at the Texas Showdown.

The Knights tallied a 289 in round one followed by a 279 to end the day with a 568 (-8) at Dallas Athletic Club.

For the third time this season, freshman Molly Smith led the Knights on the player leaderboard as she shot a 138 (-6) to land in third place. The Massachusetts native tallied 11 birdies in the two rounds of play. 

Senior Jess Baker recorded consecutive under-par rounds carding a 71 (-1) in round one and finished out the day with a 69 (-3) to tie for fifth. Baker recorded 11 birdies on the day. 

Rounding out in the top 10, Pimpisa “Sandwich” Sisutham turned in a 36-hole score of 143 (-1) to finish T10. 

Senior Brittany Shin got off to a slow start Monday morning recording a 75 (+3) but quickly turned it around to score a 72 (E) in round two. She tallied a two-round score of 147 to tie for 26th place. 

Camille Banzet just like Shin got off to a slow start with a five-over 78 in round one and a 75 (+3) to finish in 44th place. 

Competing as an individual, Katie Poots turned in two solid rounds of golf Monday carding a 142 (-2) to tie for seventh place in the Texas Showdown. 

UCF finish out the Texas Showdown with two rounds of match play on Tuesday. The Knights faceoff against Maryland in the first round of match play at 8 a.m.

Match 3 Texas State vs. Kansas

Match 4 UNLV vs. BYU

Late round: 

Championship: Match 1 winner vs. Match 2 winner

3rd Place Matchup: Match 1 loser vs. Match 2 loser

5th place Matchup: Match 3 winner vs. Match 4 winner

7th place Matchup: Match 3 loser vs. Match 4 loser
