PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Headlined by sophomore Chase Haygood firing an even par 72, the UCF men’s golf team turned in a strong first day at The Hayt Saturday afternoon at the Sawgrass Country Club. Following the first round of play, the Knights are tied for eighth with a team score of 301 (+13).
Despite having more than an hour-long rain delay, UCF continued to play well on a very challenging course, which featured water around almost every hole. The Black and Gold made 58 pars, the second most of any team, and eight birdies.
Haygood was steady throughout the day, making par on his first seven holes and eventually finishing the back nine one over. A birdie on hole No. 6 and No. 8 helped the Daytona Beach, Florida, native finish round one tied for 13th on the player leaderboard.
Egor Eroshenko was three over (75) for the day thanks to birdies on No. 4, 9 and No. 13, while Cooper Tate shot a 76 (+4) with a birdie on hole 18. The former is tied for 35th and the latter is tied for 41st.
Gustav Andersson carded a six over par 78, highlighted by a birdie on the seventh hole. Hans Risvaer rounded out the lineup for the Knights with a 79 (+7). He tallied a birdie on hole 11.
Competing as an individual, Marc Keller logged an 80 (+8).
