ORLANDO - Junior Kaitlin Peterson was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Peterson’s second-team honor marks the first of her career, as well as the first at UCF in its inaugural season in the league.
The Eufaula, Alabama, native is having a breakout season, leading the Big 12 with 568 points and 20.3 points per game. Peterson is currently fourth in the UCF record books for single-season points. She posted a career-high 35 points against Cincinnati on Jan. 10. Throughout the season, the junior has tallied five games with 30-plus points, which leads the league.
In 28 games this season, Peterson has scored double digits in 27 and has reached 20 points on 14 occasions. She posted 39 assists, which ranks second on the team.
In conference play, Peterson leads the league with 20.7 points per game. Her 35 points against Cincinnati are the third most by a Big 12 student-athlete this season.
The Knights will head to Kansas City, Missouri, for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship as the No. 14 seed and play No. 11 Cincinnati Thursday, March 7 at 9 p.m. in the T-Mobile Center.
