Track and Field Turns in Strong First Day at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Headlined by multiple top-10 all-time marks, the UCF track and field team turned in a great first day at the Florida Relays held Friday afternoon at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.

After a promising debut at the Knights Invite, the 4x100m squad ran a season-best in the prelims to claim fourth overall and an automatic qualification. Their time of 43.89 placed the quartet second in heat one as they’ll look to continue tomorrow afternoon in the finals.

In the long jump, Asherah Collins shattered her personal best with a 6.45m performance to take second place.

Freshman Brianna Rodriguez set a personal record in the 400m hurdles, clocking a 1:00.06. A few minutes later, Brenna Mullaney ran the second-fastest time in program history in the 3,000m steeplechase with a 10:47.59 to finish in first place.

Ali Del Re and Isabella Richardson closed out the night for the Knights in the 5,000m with the former setting a personal best with a 17:02.01 and the latter recording a 17:22.04. Both climbed into the top-10 charts, as Del Re sits fourth following her outstanding efforts, while Richardson jumped up to seventh all-time.

Day two of the Florida Relays is slated to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
