Play Suspended, Knights and Bulldogs Will Look to Complete Contest Sunday

ORLANDO – With two outs and a runner third in the top of the fifth, play was suspended due to rain in the second game of the series between UCF and Bryant on Saturday evening at John Euliano Park. The contest is scheduled to resume at 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Game three of the series will then take place approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Saturday’s contest if weather permits.

After a five-hour rain delay and trailing by a run in the second, the Knights rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-1 lead. With the bases loaded and nobody out in the frame, Matt Cedarburg started the scoring by drawing a four-pitch walk. Mikey Kluska and Matt Prevesk then followed with RBI singles and Andrew Brait plated another on a fielder’s choice. Lex Boedicker drove in home another run with an RBI single to right and Andrew Sundean capped the big inning with an RBI double down the leftfield line.

The Bulldogs made it a 7-5 contest thanks to a grand slam from Carmine Petosa in the third.

Junior right-hander Wiley Hartley then came on and pitched well for the Knights over the next couple of innings by not allowing hit and striking out four to keep it a 7-5 UCF advantage. But Bryant managed to work a pair of walks in the top of the fifth and with the rain starting to come down, Ryan Santangelo hit a high fly ball to right that just got over the outfield wall for a go-ahead three-run homer to make it 8-7 Bulldogs. With the rain now really coming down, Evan Blake delivered a rain-aided triple that UCF right fielder Jack Zyska lost in the downpouring rain. The umpires then huddled together and called for the tarp, as the contest entered another rain delay with two outs and a Bulldog runner on third in the fifth.

After a 45-minute delay, the contest was then suspended to Sunday morning.
