Track and Field Announces 2024 Outdoor Schedule

by Ericka Brockish

ORLANDO – The UCF track and field team has announced its 2024 outdoor schedule, its inaugural as a member of the Big 12 which will follow indoor season’s conclusion at the NCAA Indoor Championships from May 8-9 in Boston, Massachusetts. Eight regular season meets, including two home meets, will precede the conference championship from May 9-11.

Following their second consecutive American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship, the Knights will once again open their outdoor schedule at home. The squad will open the month of March at the UCF Track and Field Complex for the Black and Gold Invitational, March 15-16. The Knights will stay in Orlando the following weekend for the Knights Invite as seniors will be honored on the 23rd. A season ago, Jasmine Scott-Kilgo broke a 14-year-old record in the triple jump with her 13.29m mark. Seven Knights brought home first place for the team last season and will look to continue their success again this year.

A short two-hour trip north will take the Knights to Gainesville, Florida, where they will compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays. Rayniah Jones will look to defend her crown in the 100-meter hurdles following an emphatic 12.75 performance in the finals in 2023.

The next weekend, UCF will continue its Florida slate with the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida. They will then travel back to Gainesville for the final time in 2024 for the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational from April 12-13.

The squads will then split for the first and only time during the outdoor campaign for the Georgia Tech Invitational (Apr. 19-20) and the LSU Alumni Gold (Apr. 20) meets in Georgia and Louisiana. The distance team will make the trip north to Atlanta for the second consecutive season while the sprinters and field team will head to Baton Rouge for the third year running.

UCF will then wrap up its regular season at the familiar Jax Track at Hodges Stadium for the East coast Relays, hosted by UNF. Preceding the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville earlier this year where eight Knights punched their tickets to the Outdoor Championship, was an historical performance from Jones as she produced a record-setting meet during the 2023 edition of the East Coast Relays, breaking both her personal and the program record in the 100-meter hurdles (12.63).

The Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Waco, Texas, from May 9-11 will serve as the first with 14 teams as BYU, Cincinnati, and Houston will cap off their debut seasons in one of the top conferences in the nation along with UCF.

Qualified athletes will then travel to the Lexington, Kentucky from May 23-25 for the NCAA East Regional Championships before the Outdoor Championship returns to the famous and historical Haward Field in Eugene, Oregon, for four days from June 5-8.
