The NCAA has approved Marchelus Avery’s transfer waiver, granting him immediate eligibility for UCF men’s basketball’s 2023-24 season.
“We’re thrilled that the NCAA has approved Marchelus’ waiver,” said head coach Johnny Dawkins. “We’re excited that he is able to join us on the floor tonight. We expect him to make an impact for us going forward this season.”
Avery is a first-time transfer at the Division I level, departing New Mexico State after two seasons. He was at Northwest Florida State, a junior college, for his freshman campaign.
Avery averaged 8.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in New Mexico State’s shortened 2022-23 season. He posted a pair of double-doubles, scoring 20 points with 10 rebounds against North Carolina A&T and 16 points with 10 rebounds against Stephen F. Austin.
