KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Molly Smith turned in a stellar first round at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate on Sunday, as the Knights freshman recorded the lowest score of the round with a 66 (-5) at Cherokee Country Club.
As a team, the Knights had a strong showing in the opening round, as they are in first place with a 271 (-13) while four Knights among the top 10 on the player leaderboard.
Smith, a native of Westford, Massachusetts, carded four birdies and an eagle.
Pimpisa “Sandwich” Sisutham and Jess Baker each recorded a 68 (-3) to tie for fourth place. Sisutham carded two birdies each on the front and back nine for a total of four on the day. Baker shot even through the front nine and kicked it in gear with three birdies and an eagle on the back nine.
Tunrada “Pat” Piddon turned in a good first round, recording a 69 (-2) with two birdies in her last three holes to tie for seventh place. Brittany Shin recorded an 81 (+10) and ended the round with a birdie.
Playing as an individual, Camille Banzet turned in a score of 78 (+7).
The Black and Gold will tee off in the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Monday morning at 10:55 a.m. UCF is paired with Maryland and Mississippi State.
