Boomer Named Lou Groza Award ‘Star of the Week’

by John Heisler

UCF sophomore kicker Colton Boomer has been recognized by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl as one of three kickers this week named “Stars of the Week.”

Boomer kicked a 40-yard winner as time expired Saturday, one of his four field goals in UCF’s 18-16 road victory at Boise State. The sophomore from Lake Mary, Florida, opened the game with a 50-yarder, setting a personal best that lasted less than two quarters as he topped it with a 55-yard kick that also matches the longest in program history. In between the two long kicks was a 33-yarder, accounting for all of the Knights’ first-half scoring. His four field goals tied his own UCF single0-game record. He is now 18 of 19 in his UCF career—and the only miss in 2022 at Memphis came on a play where the ball was not intended to be snapped.

On Monday Boomer was named the Big 12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his work at Boise State.
