Achol Akot, an incoming freshman for the UCF women’s basketball team, was a member of Canada’s U19 Women’s National Team that stormed back from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit, to take home a bronze medal with an 80-73 overtime win over France at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Madrid, Spain.
Akot was one of 12 players who were selected to the team following training camp which took place at Humber College from June 20-July 8.
Akot scored a layup in the third quarter to bring Canada within five points. In the final minute of the third, she once again put the Canadians within five points as France led 60-55 at the end of the third.
The Canadian native was one of four players to score double digits recording 10 points. She added six rebounds with four on the defensive end.
Joining Akot as an incoming freshman is Khyala Ngodu from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Along with Missouri transfer Jayla Kelly.
BIG 12 PAIRINGS
The Big 12 Conference announced the schedule matrix for the upcoming season on July 20. UCF will host BYU, reigning Big 12 Champion Iowa State, Kansas and Texas, while traveling to Baylor, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas Tech. The Knights will play Cincinnati, Houston, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and West Virginia at home and on the road.
