ORLANDO – The academic honors continue to roll in for former Knight Bogdan Pavel as the recent graduate was named an ITA Scholar Athlete, announced on Monday.
Similar to the CSC All-Academic award Pavel received last month, the ITA honors student-athletes who maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher, along with continued excellence on the court. With the majority of 2023’s roster made of freshmen, the fifth year showed adequate leadership in both the competition and the classroom, setting a standard for what it means to be a Knight.
From his role within the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the representative for the men’s tennis program to his numerous community service efforts in the Orlando community, Pavel has become a role model for academic commitment.
His final season at UCF was a fitting conclusion for one of the program’s greatest athletes, as the Romanian was tabbed to both the AAC All-Conference Singles and Doubles teams. For five years, Pavel was consistently one of the more dominant doubles players in the nation; he became the program’s all-time leader in doubles victories as his 73rd and final victory came in his third-career appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships.
In singles play, Pavel showed remarkable levels of experience and intensity, setting a new career-high with 13 wins and moving as low as 79 in the ITA Rankings.
