ORLANDO – Ben McCabe, UCF baseball's veteran backstop, earns his second All-America nod as he was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's All-America Third Team, the association announced Wednesday afternoon.
Following his historic season, McCabe also received All-America recognition from Collegiate Baseball, appearing on the second team. Continuing to rack up the accolades this postseason, McCabe was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Southeast First Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
McCabe is no stranger to accolades in 2023 as he was named to D1 Baseball's Top 50 Catchers list, checking in as high as No. 5. Additionally, the Sarasota, Florida, native garnered American Athletic All-Conference First Team honors and was tabbed to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Midseason Watch List.
McCabe improved upon his previous seasons in Black and Gold, posting the best offensive statistics of his career. His slash line paced the team, earning a .371 batting average, .466 on-base percentage and an impressive .692 slugging percentage. He also led the team with 83 hits, 63 runs, 19 home runs, 15 doubles, 155 total bases and 23 hit by pitches, while spearheading the American Athletic Conference in runs, hits and home runs. Additionally, he tied for second in the league in batting average and earned sole possession of second place in on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
In addition to finishing with the best numbers of his career, McCabe's final season as a Knight saw some of the most impressive numbers in program history. He placed in the top 10 in five single-season categories. His last season in the Black and Gold saw some of the most impressive numbers in program history, placing him in the top 10 in five single-season categories, including second in hit by pitch, tied for second in home runs, fifth in total bases, tied for fifth in slugging percentage and tied for ninth in runs.
McCabe's career totals amassed to one of the most acclaimed runs in UCF program history. Joining the ranks of the top 10 in nine UCF career categories – first in home runs (49), fourth in total bases (447), fifth in RBI (184), sixth in games played (232), at-bats (822) and runs (171), tied for sixth in doubles (50), seventh in hit by pitch (44) and ninth in hits (246). He also lands in the top 10 in eight all-time categories in the American Conference, with each of his five years spent in the league.
With his incredible final season, McCabe owns the UCF program home run record, is tied for the single-game home run record (3) and holds the AAC records for both single season hit by pitch and all-time hit by pitch.
