ORLANDO – The accolades continue to roll-in for Rayniah Jones who today, was named the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the third time in her storied career, as announced by the league office this afternoon. The honor comes following a career weekend for the All-American who set a new all-conditions program record with her time of 12.63 at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida. Just over an hour later in the 100-meter dash, Jones ran a new personal best in the 100-meter dash with her time of 11.17.
The junior is now just one behind fellow All-American Latasha Smith as the duo now have seven weekly honors to their names, as Smith won her third of the season and fourth career award following her program record breaking time of 51.47 in the 400-meter dash two weeks ago at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. For Jones, this is her fourth Track Athlete of the Week this season including indoor, where the Miami native has five career honors.
The Knights have now taken home five of the seven track weekly honors this season, along with two field athletes of the week in Jasmine Scott-Kilgo and Adrienne Adams. Jones, along with the 20th ranked UCF Track and Field team, have a weekend off before the squad set out to win their fourth consecutive AAC Title at the Outdoor Championships in Tampa, Florida.
