CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The UCF baseball team (17-12, 1-2 AAC) fell in its midweek contest against the Miami Hurricanes (20-9, 8-4 ACC) at Mark Light Field on Tuesday night, 14-3.
The Canes jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning following a pair of RBI doubles.
Andrew Brait doubled in the top of the fourth and Ben McCabe drove in Brait on a single up the middle for the Knights' first run of the contest, making it 3-1.
The Canes added to their total with a two-run home run, three-RBI triple, and a sacrifice fly to score six in the fourth and sixth innings.
In the eighth, UCF got two back as Drew Faurot led off the inning with a first pitch single to right field. Greg Pettay and Matt Cedarburg drew back-to-back pinch-hit walks to load the bases. A sac fly from Brait plated Faurot, and Pettay scored on an error on the following play for a 9-3 ballgame.
Two home runs in the bottom of the eighth plated three more for the Canes and they scored the final runs of the night on a line drive to the left field wall and a sac fly to right.
The Knights dropped to 17-12 overall as they look to jump back into the win column against familiar foe this weekend.
