ORLANDO - The UCF rowing team's Varsity Four crew took home American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week honors, after a strong showing at the Lake Wheeler Invite in Raleigh, North Carolina, on April 21 and 22.
The boat, consisting of Sophia Troia, Saskia Papsova, Aubrie Russo, Veronica Rush and Martina Pischedda, finished in the top-three in all three races.
The crew's best finish of the weekend was a second place showing behind Duke with a time of 7:47.682. UCF finished ahead of Oklahoma, Navy, Miami and Georgetown on Friday afternoon.
In the Knights' first race on Friday morning, the boat placed third with a time of 7:25.495 behind Pennsylvania and Iowa. UCF finished ahead of Miami, Kansas and Navy. On Saturday morning in their final race, the Knights finished third behind Tennessee and Navy timed at 7:42.679. The boat finished ahead of Alabama, Georgetown and North Carolina.
This marks the first time UCF has received AAC Boat of the Week Honors this season.
