BELLEAIR, Fla. – Headlined by a strong final round featuring 19 birdies, the UCF men's golf claimed a fourth-place finish at the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship Sunday afternoon at Pelican Golf Club.
The Knights carded a one-over-par 281 in the third round to compile a three-day total of 845 (+5) to earn their ninth top-five finish in the AAC Championship, as this season marked UCF's final in this conference before moving to the Big 12 Conference in the next athletics year.
Houston claimed its first team title with an 831 (-9), while Cincinnati was second with an 843 (+3) and SMU secured third place with an 844 (+4).
UCF finished five strokes ahead of South Florida (850, +10) to give the Knights six more points in the War on I-4, which was clinched earlier this week when the Knights' women's golf team finished better than the Bulls in the AAC Championship.
It marked the seventh consecutive victory for the Knights, as UCF has never lost the war against its rivals from the south.
Egor Eroshenko put together a stellar final round with a 67 (-3) to leap 18 spots on the player leaderboard, finishing ninth with a three-day score of 211 (+1). He was incredible on the front nine, recording four consecutive birdies on holes four through seven and dropped in another birdie on No. 9 to log five total through the first nine holes.
He was one over on the back nine with his sixth birdie of the day on hole No. 14, tying for the most birdies by any player in the field on Sunday.
Luis Carrera and Johnny Travale finished in a tie for 10th with a 212 (+2). Carrera was even par in the third round with five birdies, while Travale tallied a four-over-par 74. The fifth year dropped in three birdies.
Markus Braadlie and Chase Haygood each shot a 216 (+6) for the tournament, ending in a tie for 22nd. Braadlie logged three birdies and Haygood had two, headlined by opening his round with a birdie on hole one. He was one of just seven players to accomplish the feat.
UCF will now await the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday, May 3, to learn if the Knights will be selected as a team or if any individuals will participate.
