BELLEAIR, Fla. –
Headlined by three players among the top 10, the UCF men's golf team turned in a great opening round to sit in second place following the first day of the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship Friday at the Pelican Golf Club.

In search of their first AAC title, the Knights took a great step towards achieving that goal with a team score of 277 (-3) to sit five strokes behind Houston (-8) for the team lead. South Florida is in third place (-2), while Memphis and Cincinnati are tied for fourth (+4).

Thanks to several strong individual performances, UCF is the only team with three players under par following the first round and each is among the top 10.

Luis Carrera and Johnny Travale are each tied for sixth with a 68 (-2) in the opening round, while Markus Braadlie shot a 69 (-1) to tie for 10th. Travale seven birdies to lead all players after the first day. Braadlie, Carrera and Egor Eroshenko dropped in four birdies.

Eroshenko fired a 72 (+2) to tie for 20th on the player leaderboard and Chase Haygood recorded a 73 (+3) to round out the lineup for the Knights and tie for 25th.

UCF will tee off at 10:10 a.m. Saturday morning in the second round of the AAC Championship.
