AUGUSTA, Ga. – UCF's Luis Carrera turned in a strong first day at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, as the fifth year is tied for second on the player leaderboard at -7 as play was suspended halfway through the second round at the Forest Hills Golf Club Saturday afternoon.
Carrera carded a 67 in the opening round to sit five under thanks to seven birdies. He was three under on the back nine and two under on the front nine. Through 10 holes in the second round, the Mexico City native has three birdies and is two under par.
As a team, UCF is tied for sixth at two under with a 290 in the first round and midway through the second round before play was halted. In a strong field featuring eight ranked teams, the Knights are currently ahead of No. 19 Georgia Southern (+9) and No. 47 Notre Dame (+12).
Johnny Travale and Egor Eroshenko are tied for 36th following the first round and a half with a two over par. Travale shot a 76 in the first round, but bounced back nicely with three birdies through 10 holes in the second round. It was a similar story for Eroshenko, who was two over in the opening round and is even through the second round.
As one of just 12 players in the field with an eagle, Markus Braadlie is three over par thanks to a 75 in the first round and is even in the second round through 12 holes. He recorded an eagle on hole No. 6 in the second round, one of just three eagles on that hole Saturday. Chase Haygood rounded out the lineup for the Knights at seven over with three birdies.
The Knights are back in action at 8:15 a.m. Sunday to conclude the second round of the Haskins Invitational with the third and final round to follow.
