Baker and Nordfors Pace Knights in Round One of AAC Championship

BROOKSVILLE, Fla.— Led by junior Jess Baker and graduate Anna Nordfors, the Knights held their own in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Monday at Southern Hills Golf Club, sitting in fifth place at one-under par (287).

Baker led the charge for UCF on Monday, opening with a two-under-par (70) in round one. With a strong finish on the back nine tallying four birdies, she is tied for sixth place among individuals.

Nordfors came out just one stroke under par scoring a 71 in the first round of the tournament. After a bogey to start off on hole No. 1, she turned it around with two birdies on the front nine and one on the back nine. The Sweden native is tied for 10th place.

Trailing closely behind Nordfors are freshman Pimpisa "Sandwich" Sisutham and senior Tunrada Piddon as they each opened up round one with a 73 (+1). Sisutham recorded four birdies while Piddon tallied three as both scored a birdie on hole No. 7.

Round things out, sophomore Zoe Allaux is tied for 43rd after a rough start on the front nine with a triple bogey on hole No. 4. Allaux knew she needed to pick it up and did so with back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16.

The Knights will tee off at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday morning for round two of the American Athletic Conference Championship and will be paired with East Carolina.
