ORLANDO – The UCF track and field wrapped up the first day of the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational at the University of Florida with multiple personal bests and new all-time top-10 marks.
The field squad saw multiple impressive showings, highlighted by Chloe Hill taking third in the hammer throw with her season-best 57.81m (189-8) mark. Hill's now gone back-to-back meets, both at the University of Florida, with throws over 57m, a great sign for the junior heading into the final meets. After seven personal bests last weekend at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Miami, Holly Cassels set a new personal best in the one event she failed to in her first heptathlon of the season, with a 34.34m (112-8) throw in the javelin. Jasmine Scott-Kilgo had her second-best career mark in the long jump as she came in sixth with her 6.35m (20-10) performance.
The only sprint event of the day for the Knights saw the trio of Beyoncé Defreitas (23.26), Daija Lampkin (23.42) and Janyah Jasper (24.09) finish 25th, 32nd and 63rd in the 200-meter dash. Mariana Rodriguez, Lillian Holtery (4:29.08) and Isabella Richardson (4:34.34) all shinned for the distance squad in the 1500-meter run, highlighted by Rodriguez's personal best time of 4:29.28, the fifth-best performance in the program's history.
The squad will be back in action tomorrow starting with the discus at 11:30 am.
