UCF Drops Series Finale to Georgia Southern 11-8

ORLANDO – UCF baseball dropped a tough battle to Georgia Southern in the series finale Sunday afternoon at John Euliano Park.

The Knights got an early lead when Drew Faurot hit a full count, two-out single through the middle to score two in the first inning. The Eagles plated six in the second inning to answer, and held on for an 11-8 win.

Nick Romano was hit by a pitch to lead off the third inning and Tom Josten singled. Faurot drew a walk to load the bases. Lex Boedicker drove in two more Knights (8-3) runs on a single to right field. Faurot scored on a passed ball.

The Eagles (7-4) tacked on two more in the fourth inning and added three in the next two.

Ben McCabe mashed a moonshot to left field for his seventh of the season. Entering this series, he was tied ninth in the nation in home runs with five. With this home run, the 37th of his career, McCabe took sole possession of fifth place for career home runs at UCF.

Faurot hit his fifth home run of the year in the bottom of the ninth, driving in Caiden Matheny who was pinch running for Andrew Sundean after he singled. Despite the late runs, the Knights were unable to ride out the momentum and the Eagles took the series with an 11-8 win in the series finale.
