STATESBORO, Ga. – The UCF men's golf team fired a 295 (+7) in the first round of the Schenkel Invitational Friday afternoon at the Forest Heights Country Club. The Knights are tied for eighth along with Campbell, while the host Georgia Southern Eagles lead the field with a 272 (-16).
Fifth year Luis Carrera headlined the Black and Gold's showing on Friday, as he shot a one-under-par 71 to tie for 12th following the opening round. He paced UCF with four birdies on the day, highlighted by finishing with a birdie on two of his last three holes.
Egor Eroshenko is one over (73) after firing a 34 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine. He was one of just seven players with an eagle, as he accomplished the feat on hole No. 7, a par-five. The Russia native is tied for 27th on the player leaderboard.
Johnny Travale recorded a 75 (+3) with a birdie on the front nine and a birdie on the back nine.
Markus Braadlie turned in a strong round, but one difficult hole inflated his score, and he finished the day four over par with a 76. Chase Haygood also tallied a 76 with two birdies on the front nine, but a tough ninth hole pushed his score to four over.
Juan Camilo Vesga competed as an individual and carded a 79 with a birdie on hole No. 7.
The Knights are back in action at 9:30 a.m. Saturday for the second round of the Schenkel Invitational.
