LAS VEGAS – Headlined by a pair of top-25 finishers, the UCF men's golf team concluded action at the Southern Highlands Collegiate hosted by UNLV at the Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Knights were three over in the final round on Tuesday to end the tournament with an 872 (+8) team score to earn a ranked win, as No. 25 San Diego State finished one stroke behind UCF.
Fifth year Luis Carrera led UCF with a six-under-par 210 to finish in a tie for 12th on the player leaderboard. He was one under on Tuesday with a 71 after firing a 66 on Monday (the best score of any individual on the day) and a 73 in the opening round.
Markus Braadlie, also a fifth year who hails from Norway, shot the lowest score of the day for the Knights with a 68 (-4) to tie for the fifth-best score in the field on Tuesday. Braadlie ended the collegiate in a tie for 24th with a one-under-par 215.
UCF was one of seven schools with two players among the top 25 of the individual leaderboard.
Egor Eroshenko recorded a 76 (+4) in the final round to finish the invitational eight over par with a 224, while Chase Haygood was one stroke behind with a nine-over-par 225 after firing four over in Tuesday's third round.
Freshman Tom Stephens shot a 230 (+14) for the tournament and was five over in the last round.
As a team, UCF finished 12th in the field highlighted by defeating 25th-ranked San Diego State and ending only a few strokes shy of several other ranked teams.
UP NEXT
The Knights will return to action at the Sea Palms Invitational hosted by Western Carolina at the Sea Palms Resort in St. Simons, Georgia. The event will be held Thursday, March 9 through Saturday, March 11.
